Is the GED and the High School Diploma one in the same?  I've heard the High School Diploma is better than the GED?  I'm confused.  Can anyone please clarify this for me?  Thanks.

The GED is considered an equivalent to a high school diploma. It is not the same thing. A high school diploma requires four years of study, the GED is a 7 1/2 hour exam in five subject areas: science, math, social studies, reading and writing.

The GED is not easy. It is designed so that only 60% of high school seniors can pass. It is accepted by 95% of colleges and most businesses as the same as a high school diploma, but is generally considered less. If one has a choice of getting a high school diploma or a GED, get the high school diploma. Here is a link that explains more about the GED: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GED
